. and we begin with phil keating streaming live from key west florida who has the latest on the storm. phil what is the latest there in the keys? >> reporter: the latest is, if you did not take the county recommendation to evacuate voluntarily, yesterday, stay put as of now. the emergency management director for monroe county telling everybody who has not left basically to stay indoors, and, don't go outside, a lot of businesses boarded up as well as houses putting their shutters on. we're live on duvall street, of course party central here in the party capital of key west and world-famous sloppy joes and is dead and it was dead last night and as we drove down u.s. 1 yesterday afternoon we passed a steady stream of traffic heading out of the keys towards miami-dade county and, joining monroe county, cancelling all schools tomorrow. so this is going to be a day-long event. and look at the satellite shot of tropical storm isaac. still packing 65 mile-an-hour winds, right now. by the time it makes landfall, maybe around 8:00 tonight, somewhere in the keys, most likely in the lower keys, like w

critical as isaac is expected to reach hurricane strength. phil keithing is live in key west. phil? >> reporter: we've got localized street flooding in key west and other parts of the florida keys right now. the problem and concern about this heavy rain event that is tropical storm isaac, florida has been receiving a lot of rain over the past few months so it's already pretty saturated. here is somebody trying to be funny, sending waves our way. as far as the tropical storm it is now about 30 miles southeast of key west and heading this way and we're in a break with one of many bands that have gone through. severe wind and rain within the last hour. it's possibly going to be a category one by the time we get to the keys but some hurricane experts now thinking it probable will not develop into a category 1 until actually getting through the keys and heading up the western side of florida into a gulf of mexico where it's going re-strengthen. we did drive around earlier. utility crews who are prepared. they had to take gre debris on a wire that could go down. there were people that lo

of tropical storm isaac phil keating live for us in key west and and let's go to maria molina in the weather center. moments ago, we saw governor rick scott saying the storm seemed to move quickly, but supposed to slow down and that's not good. >> that's right, when a storm system slows down, you're talking a prolonged period of time we'll have to deal with heavy rain and that is forecast to occur once the system begins to move over the gulf coast and a lot of things change then. what we know now, the center of the system did pass just to the south of key west, earlier today. late afternoon and basically now, about 40 miles to the west or southwest, of the city of key west and original li thinking a category 1 hurricane as early as this evening and that's changed and the storm system hasn't gotten its act together yet and maximum sustained winds at 15 miles per hour and forecast to remain a tropical storm a couple of days until early tuesday morning or late tuesday night and we had very warm weather and temperatures into the 80's and it will provide the fuel for isaac to continue to intensif
